For over a decade, this renowned social worker, reformer and anti-corruption
crusader, has been agitating for the enactment of the Right to Information
Act in the state of Maharashtra. His tireless efforts to expose corruption in
the government have resulted in the removal of over 250 corrupt officials and
several ministers. A true Gandhian in thought and practice, he has followed the
path of Satyagraha and has endured numerous hardships including award of
ridiculous three month jail term by a magistrate for having defamed a minister.
However 200,000 villagers gathered outside Pune jail and the government had
to free him unconditionally from jail in less than a week's time. This has resulted
in a vast movement of people committed to his ideals and philosophy.
